Project Description

Leave a Mark On a Community, Scholarships Work

Education is one of the core missions of the SnG Foundation, as Nelson Mandela said “Education is the most powerful weapon to change the world”. SnG wants to keep championing the course of education by granting opportunities to youths in deprived communities.

In Ghana, like many counties in Sub-Saharan Africa, education is free through to the ninth grade (the last year of “junior high school”), and enrollment rates are high up to this point, hereafter enrollment rates drop significantly. Currently, the government of Ghana has implemented a free Senior High School Education policy which aims to increase the turnout of students past the junior high level. This directly indicates that there will be an increase in university enrollments, thus giving the opportunity to many to gain admission into the universities.

When talking to different students who have dropped out of school, they indicated that the biggest barrier to education attainment was the school fees rather than the lack of opportunity.  By removing this barrier we can produce large gains in educational attainment, skills, and knowledge and prevent possible detriments to one’s community. SnG believes that an investment in knowledge pays the best interest; therefore, the foundation would like to sponsor first year students that will be admitted into the tertiary level who many not otherwise have the means to further their education. Our goal is to support students with an amount of $500.00 which aims to cover admission and tuition fees, stationary and other relevant items that would be necessary for the student. We desire to remove every education barrier that may impede the success story of students from these communities.
